Institutul National Pentru Studierea Holocaustului Din Romania Elie Wiesel, Bucureşti

The "Elie Wiesel" National Institute for the Study of Holocaust in Romania was created through Governmental Decision no. 902 of August 4, 2005.

The Institutes aims are the identification, the gathering, the recording, the research and the publishing of the documents concerning the Holocaust, the solving of some scientific issues and the elaboration and the implementation of educational programs concerning this historical phenomenon.

In order to implement the Institutes objectives, the Institute has the following main prerogatives:

to carry out studies and researches, home and abroad, in order to deepen the knowledge of the Holocaust phenomenon; to gather or to acquire by means of donations any evidence, publication, or document concerning the Holocaust or related to it; to identify, to bring into country and to preserve the documents regarding the Holocaust in Romania, in original or in copies, of any material support, from different countries; to establish an archive which will include the publications, books, scientific journal collections, newspapers, manifestos and any other written material related to the Holocaust in Romania, and to create specific working instruments in the field; to launch projects of oral history, in order to save the historical memory of the Holocaust; to organize scientific meetings dedicated to the Holocaust and to contribute to national representation in this field within the international scientific meetings; to finance the editing, the printing, and the publishing of memories, books, research studies, articles, correspondence, photographic and video collections, collections of documents, photo albums concerning the Holocaust; to organize and to support the carrying out of exhibitions and other educational activities related to the Holocaust; to set itself as a point of reference and communication with the survivors of the Holocaust.
